Chosen Foods: Pure Avocado Oil

Recommended

Chosen Foods is a San Diego-based company that focuses almost entirely on avocado oil and avocado oil-based products. Unlike brands that make a wide range of products and use avocado oil as a marketing angle, Chosen Foods built their entire business on avocado oil supply chain quality. Their pure avocado oil is one of the better options for both high-heat cooking and finishing.

Why avocado oil and why this brand

Avocado oil is approximately 10% omega-6 linoleic acid, significantly lower than canola oil (21%), soybean oil (54%), or sunflower oil (65%). Its primary fat is oleic acid (a monounsaturated fat), which is heat-stable and does not oxidize readily at cooking temperatures.

The challenge with avocado oil is quality control. A 2020 study published in the journal Food Control tested commercial avocado oils and found that a majority were either adulterated with other oils or rancid. Chosen Foods has been more transparent about their sourcing than most competitors, which is why they appear on this list.

Our Pick

Chosen Foods 100% Pure Avocado Oil

Their flagship product. Refined avocado oil with a high smoke point (~500°F) and neutral flavor, works for high-heat searing, frying, and baking without imparting avocado flavor. One of the most widely available pure avocado oils. Good for everyday cooking where you want avocado oil's heat stability without olive oil's flavor.

Our Pick

Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Spray

Convenient spray format with avocado oil as the only ingredient (no propellants or chemical additives). Useful for coating pans, grilling, or applying a thin layer of oil without over-pouring. Most cooking sprays use canola or soybean oil, this one doesn't.

Our Pick

Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Mayo

Mayo made with avocado oil instead of soybean oil. Similar profile to Primal Kitchen's version, both are good options. Chosen Foods' mayo has a slightly cleaner flavor in some comparisons. Available classic and chipotle variants.

How Chosen Foods compares to other avocado oil brands

Chosen Foods vs. Primal KitchenBoth use pure avocado oil in their condiments. Chosen Foods is more narrowly focused on avocado oil products; Primal Kitchen has a broader lineup. For pure avocado oil cooking, Chosen Foods is often better priced. For condiments and dressings, both are solid, compare prices and availability.
Chosen Foods vs. Costco KirklandCostco sells avocado oil under the Kirkland label. The sourcing varies but Kirkland avocado oil has generally tested well for purity. If you're buying in bulk and can verify it's genuinely 100% avocado oil, Kirkland may be a better value.
Chosen Foods vs. store brandsAvoid store-brand avocado oil unless the label explicitly states 100% pure avocado oil from a known country of origin. The 2020 adulteration study found multiple private-label avocado oils were blended with cheaper seed oils without disclosure.
